EARTH: Lana Lang is killed

Clark takes Lana to his Fortress of Solitude and reveals his secret to her, then proposes. Lana accepts and swears to keep his secret.

Later, Lana goes to visit Lex, who has been drinking heavily due to losing the State Senatorial race to Jon Kent. She tells Lex that Clark proposed and Lex realizes that she must have learned Clark's secret.

Lex demands the know the secret, but Lana leaves without telling him. As she drives away, Lex follows her to try to talk about the secret and while she is distracted by Lex, Lana's car is hit by a school bus and she is killed.
